Alpha Pokémon
1.8Giant, aggressive wild Pokémon arriving in Cobblemon 1.8
What is an Alpha?
Alphas are rare wild Pokémon that are much larger than normal, have glowing red eyes, and know an extra TM move. Unlike ordinary wild Pokémon, an Alpha won't flee when you hit it — it turns and fights, making it a genuine threat in survival.
Glowing red eyes
The alpha_eyes aspect gives them their signature red glow.
Much larger
Smaller species grow proportionally more than big ones.
Turns and attacks
Roars and engages instead of running when you get close.
Extra TM move
Builds from a stronger moveset with a guaranteed TM slot.
Alpha & Jumbo marks
Every Alpha carries the Alpha mark and the Jumbo (XL) mark.
How to find one
Alphas appear from a handful of sources, each with its own chance. Server owners can tune these values in the Cobblemon config.
| Source | Chance | |
|---|---|---|
| Fishing | Guaranteed | Certain fishing outcomes force the hooked Pokémon to be an Alpha. |
| Honey-slathered logs | 1 in 100 | 1-in-N chance for a Pokémon spawned from a honey-slathered saccharine log. |
| Fossil resurrection | 1 in 20 | 1-in-N chance for a Pokémon revived in the fossil resurrection machine. |
| Fossil data monitor | 1 in 40 | 1-in-N rate used by the fossil data monitor path. |
The threat: level matching
When you come within 32 blocks, a wild Alpha roars and re-scales its level to match your strongest party Pokémon — so it is always a fair-but-dangerous fight. The stronger your team, the stronger the Alpha (up to level 100).
| Your strongest Pokémon | Alpha becomes |
|---|---|
| Lv 1–19 | +5 levels |
| Lv 20–30 | Same level |
| Lv 31–40 | +10 levels |
| Lv 41–50 | Same level |
| Lv 51–65 | +15 levels |
| Lv 66+ | +20 levels |
Size boost
An Alpha's size multiplier is based on the species' hitbox: small Pokémon can become up to ~1.8× their normal size, while already-large Pokémon grow ~1.1×. See any Pokémon's Pokédex page for its exact Alpha size.
Tip: every Pokémon's Pokédex page now has an “As an Alpha” panel.
